Are you an AI hater or lover?
It appears we’ve been living in the age of AI, and at this moment, I notice three kinds of people: the AI lovers (like myself), the AI haters, and those who don’t even know what AI is. Which one are you?
Who are the AI lovers?
Let’s start by defining the people who love and use AI on a daily basis. As one of these people, I can confidently say that AI has enhanced my work as a graphic and web designer, opening new creative possibilities I had never thought possible. From generating ideas with ChatGPT to creating stunning images with Midjourney — all with a simple and imaginative text prompt — AI has become an essential part of my creative toolkit. I use it every single day, and I believe that AI enthusiasts like myself are an optimistic bunch. We recognize that AI, while both fascinating and a little frightening, will continue to evolve and improve our lives in the near future.
Who are the haters?
Now, the haters are an interesting group. They might use AI tools occasionally, but they largely believe that AI is either incapable or still too far from genuinely helping us improve our lives. To them, creativity is uniquely human, and the outputs produced by AI are, at best, “cute” or, at worst, wasteful. They take a pessimistic view of AI, worrying that it will replace human creativity and labor, generate useless, generic content, and — in the worst-case scenario — pose an existential threat to humanity.
Who are the indifferent ones? (My parents)
Then, there’s the third group: the indifferent ones. These are the people who either haven’t heard much about AI or simply don’t care. They aren’t necessarily for or against AI — they just haven’t engaged with it enough to form an opinion. As AI becomes increasingly integrated into our daily lives, it’s likely that many of these people will be pushed into either the lover or hater camp, depending on how AI impacts their lives.
Why does it matter?
Whether you’re an AI lover, hater, or indifferent, AI is here to stay, and its influence will continue to grow. The way we perceive and use AI will shape how it develops and how it fits into our society. Lovers will push AI boundaries, exploring its full potential; haters will scrutinize and challenge its risks, ensuring we consider ethical implications; and the indifferent will ultimately decide which side of the line they fall on as AI becomes an undeniable force in our world.
The big question
So, which one are you? Are you embracing the possibilities that AI offers, wary of its challenges, or just watching from the sidelines? AI isn’t just a technological shift — it’s a cultural one, and where you stand today might influence the kind of future we all experience tomorrow.
